DeKalb Police arrested an NIU student who allegedly burglarized her ex-boyfriend’s apartment and battered him early Sunday morning.

Around 2 a.m., the victim, who is also an NIU student, returned to his apartment in the 700 block of Fotis Drive and found his house had been burglarized, and his window wide open, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler.

When the victim started to call police, his ex-girlfriend, Amanda C. Scrementi, 20, of DeKalb, returned to the apartment with a friend and started to bang on the door, Spangler said. Scrementi then climbed through a window and battered the victim, causing minor injuries, Spangler said.

When police arrived, Scrementi and her friend ran out of the back door of the apartment into a nearby cornfield. Scrementi was later arrested at her apartment, where items taken from the victim’s apartment were recovered, Spangler said.

Scrementi was charged with two counts of domestic battery, one count of home invasion, one count of residential burglary and consumption of alcohol by a minor. The friend that returned to the apartment with her was not charged.

There was no sign of forced entry to the apartment, and entry was gained by removing the screen from an open window, Spangler said. Items taken in the burglary consisted of electronic equipment.
