An inmate led DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies on a chase from the DeKalb County Courthouse through Sycamore Monday.

At about 4:15 p.m., Cory Odie, 29 of DeKalb, escaped from a sheriff’s deputy after being returned to the public safety building in the courthouse, 133 West State St.

Two sheriff’s deputies, including the original deputy, captured the inmate within 10 minutes of his escape in the area of Route 64 and Governor Street.

Odie was handcuffed at all times, and there were no injuries reported. The inmate escaped from the first floor of the public safety building and was not in the jail itself, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Charges are pending review by the state’s attorney’s office.

Odie was originally in custody for a robbery charge that held sentence of 180 days, which he began serving Jan. 18, said DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott.

While he was in custody for the robbery, DeKalb police charged him with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a charge which is still pending trial, Scott said.
