The DeKalb Police Department is releasing information regarding safety tips for residents in flooded areas.

Residents should be aware that although floodwaters may be down in some areas, there may still be existing dangers.

The Police Department has taken action to keep roads that are still flooded or damaged blocked off with barricades.

Drivers and pedestrians should turn around or go another way if a road block is present.

Also, residents should check local news and radio stations for information regarding dangerous areas that should be avoided.

It is best to stay away from flooded areas. However, if it is necessary to walk or drive through these areas, residents should exercise caution.

Flooded areas not only pose a physical danger, but can also create emotional stress. Residents should be sure to look after themselves and their family members. The Red Cross has information on emotional support available.

Cleaning up after a flood may be hazardous as well as costly. The local radio or television news may provide information on state or federal assistance provided in the area.

Residents should take these precautions into consideration after a flood and also beware of the possibility of additional flash flooding.
