Pittsley will continue to do business

I would like to clear up the confusion Ms. Skibinski’s article, “Pittsley Realty cedes management to S&E,” from page 5 of Wednesday’s paper, created. First off, when she contacted me regarding the article, I thought it was a joke. I tried to get a point across to her that what was going on was not exactly newsworthy, at least not in the way she seemed to think it was. S&E is not a property management company; they own all their own buildings. As anyone who leaves their house knows, the poor economy has affected a large amount of people. The downturn in the economy has given S&E the time and opportunity to become a family-run business, thus allowing them to avoid a management expense they no longer necessitate.

Pittsley Realty still manages approximately 600 apartments and has recently been acquiring several more. We have not changed, and certainly are not going anywhere, as Ms. Skibinski’s article has conjured the idea in people’s minds. As she states, the 10 buildings out of the 100 we currently manage have been notified. This change was really only newsworthy to these select people. I wish, as Ms. McBride points out, we were able to notify our tenants sooner; however, it would have been a very vague letter saying some day in the future the owner of your building will be managing your apartment. The week it was decided between Pittsley Realty and S&E, when the change was to take place, both companies sent notice to the tenants. The only two real changes that have taken place are the phone number for these tenants to call to place service requests and the address where they mail or drop off their rent payment.

Pittsley Realty is currently renting apartments and townhomes for the coming school year, and as I stated earlier, we are not going anywhere any time soon. We remain to keep a very close relationship with the owners of S&E. Ms. Skibinski’s article would have been much better received as a notice to readers that they now have another company to choose from when looking for a nice place to live while attending college, and to welcome S&E Properties to the DeKalb and NIU Community.
