A DeKalb assistant state’s attorney was charged with a DUI early Saturday morning.

Keith M. Doherty, 40, of DeKalb, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. Saturday after police were stopped by a pedestrian who said the driver of a Toyota Scion parked in front of Lord Stanley’s, 142 E. Lincoln Highway, had been passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle.

“Obviously, I’m disappointed in the choice Mr. Doherty made,” said DeKalb State’s Attorney Ron Matekaitis.

Matekaitis said Doherty’s responsibilities have been changed as a result of his DUI charge.

“He has been demoted from a felony prosecutor to a misdemeanor prosecutor,” Matekaitis said. “He will also take a corresponding reduction in salary.”

As of Thursday, no court date for Doherty was available at the DeKalb County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
