(Mostly) Homemade Apple Pie

With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching, everyone is scrambling for the right recipes to prepare for that special meal. I’ve decided to share my secret recipe for apple pie that is simply perfect for a late autumn dinner with family.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup self-rising flour
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
4-5 apples (try a mix of golden delicious and a nice tart, crisp apple like a Granny Smith or Jonagold), peeled and sliced
1/2 stick margarine, sliced
2 refrigerated pie crusts (much easier than making your own)

Mix the sugar, flour and cinnamon in a bowl. Put the first pie crust into a 10 inch pie pan and arrange half the apples onto the crust. Sprinkle half the sugar mixture over the apples, then layer on the rest of the apples followed by the remainder of the sugar mixture. Place sliced margarine pieces on top of the last layer and cover with the second crust. Pinch the two pie crusts together around the edge of the pie pan, cut a small hole in the center and cut about six slits on the top of the pie (this allows for ventilation so your pie doesn’t burst open in your oven). Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for an hour to an hour and a half. When the crust is golden brown, and you can see the filling bubbling in the hole, your pie is ready!
