The “Arrested Development” movie is a go.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers of the show have closed the deal to make the film.

I know most “Arrested Development” fans, or “AD” fans, have been psyched for the Bluth’s venture to the big screen since producer and narrator-extraordinaire Ron Howard thought Maeby’s TV pitch about her family worked better as a movie in the epilogue of the show’s final episode.

There is, however, one possibly major hiccup.

According to that powerhouse of journalistic integrity, E! Online, one cast member has yet to sign on to the project. The article doesn’t mention any names, but another cast member said, “It will happen with or without the holdout.” The reporter said multiple sources have confirmed the very tragic truth.

As a journalist, I know it’s unethical for me to publish any hearsay or conjecture.

But as a blogger, I’m ready to spread any crackpot rumor I can come up with.

So here I go.

After watching countless interviews with the cast of “AD” over the last few years, if I had to pick the one cast member currently not signed on, I’d say it is the adorably awkward Michael Cera.

When asked about the possibility of a movie, he often says he enjoyed working on the show, but that it ran its course.

When asked more recently by the Canadian newspaper National Post in August, Cera said, “I don’t think I would want to see a movie of the series if I was a fan, anyway.” He added, “And I don’t really see a need for it if you can get the three seasons on DVD.”

I respect his desire to want to move ahead and keep the past in the past, but a George Michael-less “AD” movie will be a pretty hard sell, even for hardcore “AD” fans. Since the pilot, one of the best sources of comedy came from the slightly-cringy-but-always-hilarious tension between George Michael and Maeby.

With the film still in the early stages, there should still plenty of time to convince Cera of how truly important he is to the Bluth family. If there truly is no god and he decides not to be in it, hopefully he’ll at least agree to pull a Charlton Heston from “Beneath the Planet of the Apes” and show up at the end of the movie to blow up the Earth with a nuclear warhead.

But then again, I could be completely wrong. I could have just wasted your time with the last five paragraphs. Either way, don’t be afraid to add to the hearsay by using that handy little comment box down below.
