On Tuesday night, Nov. 25, your Huskies will play an extremely important football game right here at Huskie Stadium against the United States Naval Academy beginning at 6 p.m. This is the biggest game of the season, and I am writing to ask the entire Northern Illinois University community – students, faculty and staff – to show up and support your team.
A win over Navy will give us seven victories this season. With a 7-5 record, we will have a chance to play in a bowl game and will put ourselves in a great position for the postseason. This game really is a battle for a bowl.
Navy is a great opponent, and I have a great deal of respect for their team and the young men in that program. With the tradition they have built over the last several years and with what their team represents for our country, Navy is one of the top teams to come to DeKalb in several years. They will be bringing several thousand fans and some of the pomp and pageantry that surround their games to Huskie Stadium. More importantly, Navy is a very good football team and defeating them will be difficult.
That is where you can help. Our fans have done a tremendous job this year. I am convinced that we would not have the record we do without your loud and enthusiastic support. We have enjoyed a significant home field advantage and that is due to you, your enthusiasm and your passion for Huskie football.
On Tuesday, we need you more than ever. Come to the game and bring a friend. As an NIU student, your ticket is free, but we have also declared this game Student Night and ANY non-NIU student of any age can get in for just $1. In addition, three students will win free books for next semester and one student will win $500 and free XM radio just by showing up.
Our team has played hard all year, and I know you have been with us every step of the way. Help us make Tuesday a great night for Northern Illinois at Huskie Stadium.
For ticket information, call 815-752-6800 or go to www.niuhuskies.com.
See you at the game, and go Huskies!
