The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a winter weather advisory for snow, effective from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Three to five inches of total accumulation are expected by Wednesday evening.

The snow will overspread northern Illinois beginning Wednesday morning and will continue throughout the day and into the evening.

The heaviest snow is expected to be across areas north of Interstate 88, the service said.

A winter weather advisory for snow means accumulating snow will cause mostly travel-related difficulties. Drivers should be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility.
