CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. Senate appointee Roland Burris says he's cooperated with Senate leaders' requests and expects to be seated soon.

He says he's happy the Illinois Supreme Court ruled his appointment doesn't need the secretary of state's signature to be valid, contrary to U.S. Senate leaders previous statements.

Democratic leaders in Washington this week backed off their initially staunch opposition to seating Burris because scandal-plagued Gov. Rod Blagojevich appointed him.

They instead said they wanted Burris to testify before a state panel, which he did Thursday, and were waiting to see if the state court would force a signature on the appointment.

Senate leaders didn't immediately comment Friday.

But Burris says he expects they'll seat him "in a timely manner."
