Walk-a-Thon helps raise AIDS awareness

Zeta Phi Beta hosted its 10th annual AIDS Walk-a-Thon Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The walk started at the Center for Black Studies and concluded with a reception in the Grant Towers North lower lounge.

Darlett Stevens of Zeta Phi Beta said the walk was organized to help raise AIDS awareness at NIU and in the DeKalb community.

Mardelyn Brown, a 24-year-old HIV/AIDS consultant, spoke to the participants after the walk.

Participation for the event was strong, Stevens said.

“The turnout was great; we had over 100 walkers,” Stevens said. “It was very successful and we look forward to years to come when we have more participants. We hoped it served its purpose to spread awareness throughout the community.”
