Wrestling travels to face off with Northern Iowa

Another tough test faces the NIU wrestling team this weekend as it battles with No. 22 Northern Iowa at 7 p.m. Friday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The match will feature five ranked wrestlers from the NCAA Division-I Wrestling Coaches Panel including NIU’s Tristen DeShazer who is ranked No. 20 in the 133-pound class. DeShazer is 18-7 on the season and is fifth in the nation with 14 pins.

Northern Iowa’s redshirt senior, No. 3 Moza Fay (19-3), placed fifth in the NCAA Championships last season and will face Bryan O’Connor (5-5) or John Odeen (4-4).

NIU's defending MAC champion Pat McLemore will face Trenton Washington for the second time this season. NIU’s McLemore won 10-9 in their last meeting.

Other ranked matchups pit NIU’s Brad Dieckhaus (5-5) against No. 19 Alex Molly (4-3) at 184 pounds. Redshirt freshman Scott Penny (11-9) will face No. 12 Andrew Anderson (19-6) of Northern Iowa in the 197-pound match. The last ranked match has freshman Zak Saevre (9-12) facing No. 12 Christian Brantley(22-6) in the 285-pound bout.
