Letter Writer: Cartoons insulting troops is a slap in the face

I can’t remember a time while reading a paper that something made me angrier. I realize that this was just a comic strip (published Jan. 30), but the decision to publish it while the writer labeled our service men and women as gullible youths was a huge oversight.

It’s one thing to poke fun at the advertisements of the military, but to disrespect our troops like that was completely unnecessary. After all, it is cliché, but our military is one of the reasons that he can write those strips. I don’t really know what I hope to accomplish by writing this letter to you, I just thought I had to do something about this huge insult and slap in the face to our troops.

I know I can’t expect any formal apology, and I’ll be lucky if I get an e-mail back acknowledging my complaint. I just wanted you and your staff to know that there are people on campus who love our country dearly, and those who make the decision to serve are not all just “gullible youths.”
