The DeKalb Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Sunday morning at 1400 Twombly Road.

The fire department arrived at the apartment building at 3:49 a.m., when the first crews found smoke in the first-floor apartment with no flames visible.

After entering the apartment, a fire was found in the rear bedroom. The crews entered the bedroom and extinguished the fire and searched for occupants.
No injuries were reported.

The fire was limited to the bedroom and hallway and was estimated to cause $15,000 in damage, said DeKalb Fire Chief Lanny Russell. Smoke caused the majority of the damage, he said.

The fire is believed to have started on a night stand in the bedroom, but the department was unable to narrow it down to the specific cause, Russel said. The fire was ruled accidental.

Russel said the closed door in the bedroom slowed the spread of the fire, in addition to the smoke detectors.

I'm guessing the Marlboro man was a cause.
