An NIU student was robbed Sunday morning in the 900 block of Spiros Court.

About 5:34 a.m. Sunday, the student was walking home in the area when a vehicle pulled behind him and three to four suspects exited the vehicle and approached the student.

The suspects asked the victim if he had any change, and while the victim looked through his wallet, he was hit on the side of the face and knocked to the ground. The suspects then took the victim’s wallet and drove away.

One of the suspects is described as a black male, about 6-foot and wearing a white T-shirt. No descriptions were available for the other suspects.

Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department said there is a chance the incident is related to similar robberies in the area, and a connection is not being ruled out.

Yet another crime on campus. Safety here is a joke and the real problem on this campus is so obvious but no one can say it. Pathetic

I want to know what is going on in recent DeKalb. The reason I came to this school was that NIU advertised a low crime rate in the area. Now I can't go 2 days without reading about how people are geting robbed every two minutes. This has to be stopped!

NIU advertises a low crime rate by "administratively closing" everything. Keeps the rates lower and makes the Chief look like he's doing a great job.
