After receiving an inch of snowfall Wednesday evening, the weekend forecast assures DeKalb has not seen the last of winter.

Staff meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said DeKalb could expect up to 6 inches by Saturday and 8 inches for the surrounding northern Illinois regions.

“The snowfall will begin sometime around midnight on Friday and finish at about noon on Saturday,” Sebenste said. “The wind gusts will be fairly light through Friday and will continue to pick up between 20-30 miles an hour on Saturday. As for the temperature, it will stay in the mid to upper 20s and is expected to fall to 5 degrees by Saturday evening.”

As for the remaining winter months, Sebenste said he expects an above average precipitation though is unsure whether it will be rain or snowfall.

“What’s happening is the pattern of the jet stream from the North Pole has crashed south into the Midwest region, reducing snow but keeping us very cold,” Sebenste said. “After this weekend, the jet stream will be pushed west into the Rockies and will return late next towards Illinois.”
