Two suspects arrested for attempted buglary at local scrap yard
By ALAN EDRINN

The DeKalb Police Department arrested two Rockford residents while investigating an alarm Sunday morning at Zimmerman’s Scrap Yard, 301 Industrial Drive.

Police responded to the scrap yard after an alarm sounded about 1:14 a.m. and, with the assistance of K-9 unit, found the two suspects hiding near the business.

The two suspects, Christopher Jensen, 22, and Jerry Hudson, 25, both of Rockford, were arrested and taken into custody.

The suspects gained entrance to the yard by hopping the surrounding fence, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department.

The suspects were believed to be seeking copper because of its high price as scrap metal, and there has been an increase in the number of copper thefts lately in the county, Spangler said.

Jensen and Hudson are charged with burglary, a Class 2 felony. They were later transported to the DeKalb County Jail pending bond, according to a DeKalb Police Department press release.
