The winning is continuing for the NIU men’s rugby team.

After going 6-0 in the fall, the Huskies opened up spring with a 48-12 win at Illinois State.

“I think we’re off to a good start,” said Al Collins, NIU men’s rugby president . “This was definitely a good win for us playing a team from the Illinois Rugby Football Union. Those always seem to be better competition and a bigger game. I think we are definitely right where we want to be for right now.”

NIU went 3-1 in the Whiskey 10’s Tournament last weekend, but this was its first single match.

The B side also won its match 35-0.

The Huskies’ next match will be this upcoming weekend at Wake Forest, and their first home match is April 11 against Wisconsin-Parkside.

Paintball

After winning its first ever tournament, the NIU Paintball Club traveled to Illinois State for another tourney.

“This was really just practice for nationals,” said Dave Moore, NIU Paintball Club president . “This was a good opportunity for some of the guys who don’t usually get to play.”

Using the B team, the No. 9 Huskies went 1-7 in their eight games.

None of the teams competed in NIU’s previous tournament, and most of them were using their good squads, Moore said.
