Burglars break into Sycamore properties

A liquor store and private school were broken into during the night in Sycamore last week, Sycamore Police said.

On March 17 and March 18, overnight burglaries were reported at Depot Liquors, 524 N. Main St., and Cornerstone Christian Academy, 355 N. Cross St., according to a Sycamore Police Department news release. A safe and undisclosed property was stolen from Cornerstone, but nothing was reported stolen from Depot Liquors, said Sycamore Police Sgt. Steve Cook.

In both burglaries, the suspect gained entry through the roofs of the buildings, according to a March 23 Crime Stoppers release. The suspect was wearing all black clothing and a hood, according to Crime Stoppers.

Based on the similar entries, investigators believe the two burglaries are connected, Cook said. Police are also working on a couple of leads in the case, he said.

Business owners are encouraged to avoid keeping any cash overnight and check their alarm systems, Cook said. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, including people outside of businesses during non-business hours, he said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sycamore Police Department at 815-895-3435.
