The Student Association had many agenda items to address at its Sunday meeting but managed to get through them efficiently.

Twenty-five of 39 senators addressed nine agenda items as they convened to approve: among other things, a new student organization, allocate supplemental funding to another group, amend the SA Bylaws and Constitution and approve a senator appointment.

At the start of the meeting, two agenda items were withdrawn because more time was needed to prepare them for SA consideration.

The NIU Club Tennis attended to seek SA recognition. The group looks to provide a means for tennis players to play with fellow enthusiasts for recreational and competitive purposes. The group was unanimously approved.

“I’m very happy,” said club president Andrew Norte. “We’ve been trying to do this for seven months, and now we can hold official tournaments. It’s great.”

E.B.O.N.Y. Women sought supplemental funding, putting in a request for $2,000 to fund a retreat they have planned for April. The retreat is aimed to promote unity and leadership among the women in attendance. The SA unanimously approved the request.

“I’m excited; I’ve never done this before, and I’m excited because we get to do all the stuff we want to do this year,” said the group’s president Domonique Webb.

The SA’s budget for supplemental funding is now about $37,400.

One piece of legislation brought to the SA found its way after it was lost in paperwork since last year. The bill allocates funding to maintenance of the Huskie Bus Line GPS system. The reason for the delay is unknown.

“I could probably spend a year looking into this and never figure out what happened,” said Speaker of the Senate Matthew Venaas.

Three SA meetings remain this semester with the final one scheduled for April 26.
