Police arrested a Sycamore man for allegedly burglarizing an automotive store in Malta. The man has been a suspect in a large number of burglaries throughout the last two years, police said.

Andrew J. Soloman, 43, was arrested at the DeKalb County Courthouse, 133 W. State St., after police issued a warrant for his arrest after the results of a DNA test linked him to the Aug. 12 burglary at Arndt Automotive, 412 E. Van Buren St. in Malta. Soloman was at the courthouse on unrelated business when a security guard recognized him as having a warrant, said Kevin Hickey, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy.

While investigating the Arndt Automotive burglary, investigators found traces of blood, which were later shown to be Soloman’s by the crime lab, Hickey said. Soloman was the main suspect in the burglary, and detectives were able to issue a warrant after the results came in, Hickey said.

“We have suspected Soloman in a number of burglaries over the last several years,” Hickey said. “When we finally got the evidence, we got the charge.”

During the burglary, Soloman broke out several windows of the business and stole $50 in cash, Hickey said.

Soloman was charged with burglary and taken to DeKalb County Jail pending $80,000 bond.
