The one thing I hate about postseason baseball is dumb commentators.

During Wednesday night’s Cubs-Diamondbacks game, we had the great pleasure of listening to Dick Stockton as play-by-play commentator. It’s bad enough that the playoffs are broadcast on TBS, but having to listen to Stockton is near torture.

As a commentator who gets paid a lot of money, he should learn how to pronounce the names of players and coaches.

Here is a list of names he screwed up: Carlos Marmol (he emphasized the “o” at the end), Aramis Ramierez (he said, “Rodrigo Ramierez”), Mike Quade (he said, “Quaid”) and Augie Ojeda (he pronounced it “Oh-he-da”).

And, oh yeah, Lou Piniella never won a World Series with the Oakland A’s, but for some reason Stockton believes he did.

Please, Dick. Next time, actually look over the media guide that gets put in front of you before every game. You’ll learn that there is a pronunciation guide within. Read it! You’ll sound smarter and like you actually prepared yourself before going on national television.
