Investigation continues for armed robbery in Neptune

There are no updates in the armed robbery that occurred in Neptune East Monday.

Lt. Todd Henert of the University Police said the investigation is ongoing, and that no arrests have been made.

Although the robbery was allegedly done with a “black steel pistol,” there does not appear to be any changes in security at the residence halls.

Brock Hutchinson, sophomore math education major, said he was not worried by this, although he said he “wouldn’t mind having another police officer or two outside.” But Hutchinson was concerned that the incident happened.

“It’s very worrying to me and everyone else on campus, especially after what happened last year,” Hutchinson said.

Junior sociology major Shawn Baldwin, however, said it was naive for students to think armed robberies cannot happen on campus.

“I don’t feel different if the robbery happened in a room or outside of a liquor store,” Baldwin said. “Wherever you live, you are going to get robberies.”

The robbery, according to the UP blotter, occurred in the afternoon but was not reported until several hours later. Henert previously said that the UP had identified the offender, who was an acquaintance of the victim. It is unknown what was stolen.
