Jerry Zielinski was known to send the Evans Field House crowd into a frenzy with an accurate long-range shot. The crowd would chant ā€œZ! Z! Z!ā€ as the ball left his hand and swished through the net. He averaged 19.2 points a game with 1,402 career points before the 3-point shot was instituted into basketball.

ā€œZā€ was an NIU All-Century team member and on the All-Time Evans Field House team. He was on the 1972 team that finished 21-4, made the AP Top 20 and upset No. 5 Indiana.

On Feb. 20, 1971, he set a career high and Evans Field House record with 46 points versus Southern Illinois.
