Revisions to Chapter 38, “Intoxicating Liquors,” of the municipal code have been put on hold as of Monday night.

The DeKalb City Council has been working with the liquor commission and several liquor license holders for about two years on making revisions to the code said Mayor-elect Kris Povlsen.

Povlsen acknowledged there is still time to revise any issue license holders may have with the proposed code.

“We still have 120 days to tweak this,” Povlsen said.

Sixth-Ward Alderman Dave Baker motioned to postpone the revisions to the code because several licensees had not received a copy of the proposed code and those who had received a copy had issues with some parts.

The council also approved several ordinances allowing District 428 to move ahead with plans for the new high school to be located at the northwest corner of Dresser Road and Wildflower Lane.

“We’ve come a long way,” said District 428 Superintendent Jim Briscoe. “The new high school is going to be a spotlight feature in this community.”

Second-Ward Alderman Tom Teresinski was excited to see the plans finally come to fruition.

“This will be a welcome edition to the second ward of our city,” Teresinski said.

Other business:

A resolution was passed recognizing 4th-Ward Alderwoman Donna Gorski for four years of service to the City of DeKalb.

The Council also passed a resolution recognizing City Clerk Donna Johnson for 27 years of service to the city.

An ordinance was passed to rezone the Evans Scholars House, 901 Greenbrier Road, and the Theta Kappa Epsilon house, 907 Greenbrier Road.
