Graffiti found on Varsity Square Apartments undergoes investigation

DeKalb Police are investigating two related incidents of obscene graffiti.

DeKalb Police Lt Gary Spangler said the incidents occurred at Varsity Square Apartments, 1212 Varsity Blvd. and 846 Spiros Court, an S&E Properties building.

The vandalism on both buildings targeted a local business owner, according to the DeKalb Police blotter.

Varsity Square Apartments had no comment on the issue, and S&E Properties could not be reached as of press time.

S&E Properties filed a police report at 10:51 a.m. Monday, according to the blotter.
The report said the buildings do not have security cameras, and the investigation by the officer did not turn up any evidence.

Spangler said graffiti cases in DeKalb are sporadic.

“It goes in cycles,” he said. “We could go weeks without an incident, then we’ll get a few all at once.”

He said occasionally police will make an arrest in these types of cases. However, most of the time it happens in the middle of the night with no witnesses, which makes it difficult to catch the culprit, Spangler said.
