Suspect arrested in last week's drive-by shooting
By ALAN EDRINN

DeKalb police arrested a Belvidere resident believed to be involved in a gang-related drive-by shooting of a residence in the 300 block of North Seventh Street.

Police spoke with witnesses Thursday who heard several gunshots and saw a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed at about 1:38 a.m.

On Friday, police located the suspect vehicle involved in Belvidere. Police arrested David G. Beard, 20, of Belvidere, and charged him with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct.

Police also located the gun believed to have been used in the shooting.

An investigation revealed a residence in the area of the shooting was a potential target. The shots were fired at the residence from an alley behind the house and a bullet hole was found in the siding. No injuries were reported in the shooting.

It is believed an occupant of the house had a confrontation with the group thought to have done the shooting prior to the incident, according to a DeKalb Police Department press release issued Thursday.

Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department said there may be more charges and arrests forthcoming in connection with the shooting. Spangler said Beard is a known gang member.

Police transported Beard to the DeKalb Police Department and later to the DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
