The GWAR show scheduled to be at Otto’s Niteclub May 11 has been canceled.

City Attorney Norma Guess said that after viewing videos of GWAR’s performances on YouTube, Chief of Police Bill Feithen and herself decided that the content violated the obscenity clause of Chapter 38, “Intoxicating Liquors” in the Municipal code.

The show has been moved to Durty Nellies Pub, 180 N. Smith St., in Palatine May 11. The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets purchased from Otto’s will be honored at this location. Refunds are available at ticketweb.com.

This kind of oppression bleeds the freedom of expression. Only 2 nights ago GWAR played to 10's of thousands at the Meadowland and opened for No Doubt. N.J. was ok with GWAR but not IL. This is a shame. This kind of oppression is obscene and I hope the people of this state voice their displeasure.

I, for one, am glad we have the government protecting us from the big, bad world! Really, what's the alternative... making our own decisions? That's one step from anarchy! I think we need more censorship.

Is this how the city attorney and police chief spend their time! No wonder we're in a budget crisis!
