Northern Star strives to connect the community

The Northern Star would like to welcome new and returning students, NIU faculty and DeKalb and Sycamore community members back for another semester.

We want to continue our positive relationship with current and returning community members and create a good relationship with those who are joining the community for the first time.

Here we would like to emphasize our plans for having a successful semester. Coverage of the community has always been the Northern Star’s top priority.

Whatever changes the Northern Star goes through, our commitment to unwavering coverage of the community has always been our reason for existence. We want to make this semester successful in covering NIU, DeKalb and Sycamore news as well as relevant news from other parts of the world.

The Northern Star has accumulated new staff members and retained staff from previous years, all of whom are committed to bring news coverage to the community.

The Northern Star recognizes the community’s need for news that can be delivered in different ways, not just a print edition.

Our Web site, www.northernstar.info, will be updated with not only stories as soon as they break, but photo slideshows and videos.

Our exclusive entertainment Web site, www.dekalbscene.com, will have all entertainment material from our print edition as well as stories, reviews and videos that are exclusive to the site.

Check both of our sites often to get all that our news organization has to offer. We also have our own Twitter feed at Twitter.com. We can be accessed @NIUNorthernStar. Last but not least, the Northern Star’s Facebook presence will be given new emphasis this semester, and we are always looking for new ways to better serve our readers.

Finally, the Northern Star wants to continue its role as a community forum. We encourage letters to the editor from any reader and publish relevant letters as often as possible.

The letters can be about any community issue or direct feedback about the Northern Star’s product.

They can be sent online to editor@northernstar.info, mailed to Northern Star, Campus Life Building Suite 130, or dropped off directly at our office.

We are also available by phone, at 753-9646. Our Web site has a comment section at the end of each story for readers to leave feedback as well.

Of course, if there are any other ways we can serve our readers better, please let us know.
