Students who are active but find the process of walking to the Campus Recreation Center too taxing are in luck.

NIU Recreation Services has moved its registration process online.

Those wishing to sign up for most services will be able to do so via the Recreation Services
Web site by going to the section of the Web site they wish to participate in.

“We are offering registration for intramural sports, group and individual fitness training sessions, nutrition classes, and yoga on the web page,” said Recreation Services Director Sandi Carlisle. “The only service that is not online yet are the outdoor adventures offered by the Outing Center.”

Online registration is available for all students and staff, as well as community members who have paid for the use of the Rec center.

Any fees that are required for the activities can be paid online with a credit card or debit card.
Those wishing to pay in cash or with a check can do so at a kiosk in the lobby of the Rec center.

“We hope that this feature makes it more convenient for students to register for classes or intramural sports,” Carlisle said. “We believe in our programs and their benefits and hope that enrollment will increase.”

Anastasia Woyna, a graduate student, believes that online registration will make attending training classes easier.

“People show up right before a class starts and there is a line to sign up,” Woyna said. “It was a pain to register like that, and online registration should make the process easier.”

That ease is exactly what the Rec center is looking for with the new program.

“Now people don’t have to worry about not being able to access the sign-up,” Carlisle said.
“Now they can do it from the comforts of their own home, even at the spur of the moment at two in the morning.”
