An NIU student’s most vital aid for classroom success might not be a textbook.
Many locations on campus are offering free planners that feature calendars that list important events and allow students to write down homework and reading assignments. They also can feature important campus phone numbers, advertisements for area businesses and coupons.
The Student Association is one group that sponsors a planner. The organization has ordered about 10,000 planners for the academic year at no cost to the university, said SA President Rob Sorsby.
“Our planners are provided free of charge by University Directories,” Sorsby said. “The planners pay for themselves through advertisements.”
The SA distributed its planners during several Welcome Days events and plans to hand out more during the Campus Life Building’s open house Wednesday. Students can also pick up a planner any time at the SA office, Campus Life Building Room 180
Senior economics major Dylon Pelc hands out the free planners when students pick up their books at the University Bookstore.
“Using the planners definitely is a big help with getting my homework done,” Pelc said. “I use the planner to remember important dates and it has a sweet picture of a Huskie on it.”
Derek Lindstrom, a junior business communications major, agrees the planner he picked up at the Village Commons Bookstore helps him stay on top of his assignments.
“The planners are very helpful, but you need to keep up with it,” Lindstrom said. “It is still up to you to do the actual work.”
