The former home of Detox has a new tenant.

Campus Club Bar and Grill, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway, opened last Friday and hopes to stay that way for a long time.

Manager Matt Legg said he hopes to bring a new image to his restaurant unlike the one the previous establishment Detox had.

“Detox had many violations and [they] were not doing positive things,” Legg said.

Those occurrences led Legg to changing the original name of Detox Bar and Grill to Campus Club.

“We wanted to keep the name Detox because it was popular with students,” he said. “We decided to change the name because we didn’t want to be associated with the previous owner.”

Mayor Kris Povlsen said he spoke with Legg about changing the name as a way to help out in their success.

“I talked with the owners about making the name more campus-friendly and they agreed,” Povlsen said.

Campus Club will allow all ages to come in and eat however those wanting to drink alcohol must have a wristband and those without will not be served any drinks.

Legg also said they are scanning driver’s licenses as another precaution to prevent underage drinking.

He wants people to know that although Campus Club serves alcohol, it is a restaurant first, as it has the Class E license that allows restaurants to serve alcohol.

“We offer a variety of foods on our menu and have carry-out on the weekends,” he said.

Legg hopes to have a place where students and members of the DeKalb area of all ages would like to be and believes he can fulfill this by having popular musical acts at Campus Club.

They currently have B96 DJ Dan Morrell performing weekly. Legg said Morrell might be able to use someone of his connections with the radio station to get popular acts to Campus Club.
