DeKalb County is under a flash flood watch through Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
NIU meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said flooding could be a possibility, but more rainfall would be necessary.
“We would have to see another three to four inches of rain,” Sebenste said.
The Kiswaukee River is still relatively low, in terms of a flooding stage, due to a recent dry spell, Sebenste said.
“Right now the Kishwaukee River is at 3.5 feet,” Sebenste said. “You start running into trouble at 8.5 feet.”
The city of DeKalb is prepared for a flood at this time.
“We have this down to an art,” said Public Works director Rick Monas. “It’s just a regular rainfall at this point, but we are monitoring the situation.”
