Track of the Day: MGMT's 'Kids'

I tried categorizing MGMT to give you a better idea of what type of the music they are, but I realized that this is too hard to do, as they are in a class of their own. A cross between classic rock and electric gives you an idea of their genre but doesn’t do them justice.

“Kids” is one of the best songs on their album Oracular Spectacular, followed by “Time to Pretend” and “Electric Feel.” If you’re looking for something completely new and unique that you have never heard before, MGMT is the band to turn to. Their mellow melodies and catchy beats grow on you more and more every time you hear them. They are one of those bands whose songs give that nostalgic feeling while listening, even if you’ve never heard it before.
With all of the terrible music that is popular nowadays, it’s extremely refreshing to find real talent among the muck.

MGMT is an American band based in Brooklyn, N.Y., and it consists of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. They were named “Artist of the day” by Spin.com in 2007, and listed in the “Top Ten Artists to Watch” by Rolling Stone in 2008. Their albums are available online at their Web site, www.whoismgmt.com.
