Reckless driving and fighting is juvenile

The Northern Star reported that two people crashed their car into a fence of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house, 1020 Hillcrest Drive, after fleeing an alleged fight outbreak at West Ridge apartments, 919 W. Ridge Drive, Thursday night.

After losing control and crashing into the fence and brick retention wall, the two suspects crawled out of the car and ran away.

The different problems with this situation are too obvious, and that fact itself is the biggest problem.

Now it is not certain whether or not these two people are students, but anyone hanging out in a college community should be embarrassed for such juvenile behavior.

What part of the kindergarten lessons, “keep your hands to yourself” and “play nice,” did everyone at this fight miss?

It is more than irritating that young adults still find it necessary to pummel someone else in order to build their own self-confidence and prove that they, too, have testosterone pumping through their veins.

Somewhere in this silly idea, there is an image similar to junior high dodgeball games.

To continue dissecting the sequence of the two suspects Thursday night, running away from the police in such a dangerous haste indicates that they knew what they were doing was ridiculously wrong.

If there is ever a fight worth fighting for, the risk of a battery charge should be worth it just as much. For example, beating up a stranger who has broken into your house and is trying to kidnap your kids.

Then again, there is always 911.

But on average, alcohol mixed with a false sense of superiority is the reasoning behind a Thursday night fight.

In their escape, the officer who responded to the scene said he was almost hit by the Oldsmobile the suspects were driving.

They could have killed not just the officer or anyone else on that street, but they could have killed themselves. The runaways are simply selfish.

It is incredibly pathetic that these assertions must be published for the public.

Sometimes, unfortunately, people must be reminded to grow up.

And that does not mean acting like it, it means acting on it.
