DeKalb’s Volunteer Action Center, 1606 Bethany Road, hosted its eighth annual golf outing Friday at Sycamore Park in order to raise money for the organization’s many programs.
Amber Trzeciak, VAC community relations manager, organized the event. The cost to attend the event was $80 per golfer and over 60 golfers showed up at the outing to enjoy a day of golfing, food, raffles and a silent auction. Trzeciak said even more people donated to the organization but were unable to attend the outing.
This event is one of the two main fundraisers VAC hosts every year, in addition to other smaller fundraisers held throughout the year. VAC’s other main fundraiser is its Meals for Moms event, usually held in May of each year.
National Bank and Trust and Kishwaukee Community Hospital were the primary sponsors in this golf outing.
Ellen Rogers, associate director of VAC, said they collected a revenue of over $10,000. In addition to the money they collect from fundraisers, VAC is able to run their programs each year with state and federal grants.
“This was definitely our most successful outing yet,” Rogers said. “We should be enjoying a $3,000 increase in funds, which is great in these hard times.”
All the money raised at this event goes toward VAC’s programs which include meals on wheels, Medvac, Transvac and their senior site at the DeKalb Senior Center. VAC manages a senior luncheon program at the senior center Monday through Friday every week, serving about 45 individuals each day.
“We usually don’t plan this event for September but this year it worked out because it was such a beautiful day and more people showed up than we’ve ever had before,” Trzeciak said.
In addition to members of the VAC board participating in the event, Trzaciak said golfers came from all around the DeKalb and Sycamore area to enjoy the day and show support for the organization.
“We are so grateful for the tremendous support and the amount of people who participated in our outing,” Rogers said. “This amount of support is so indicative of our wonderful community.”
