Wind farm could become a reality in DeKalb County

Dreaming of traveling the world can become reality a lot simpler than may be thought, with the help of NIU’s Study Abroad Office.
For the 17th year, Study Abroad will host its annual study abroad fair on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Duke Ellington Ballroom of the Holmes Student Center, allowing students a chance to see where they may spend a portion of their college career.
“We found this is the best way to get all our providers, all our NIU program directors, everybody involved with study abroad in one place and to get the students there to find out more about study abroad,” said Anne Seitzinger, director of the Study Abroad Office.
The fair is open to all students who would like to learn about the options of studying abroad in the more than 75 countries that programs are set up in. This year’s theme is “Rock the World Study Abroad.”
“We’ve got T-shirts that have the ‘Rock the World’ logo and some other promotional things,” Seitzinger said. “Everyone that comes to the fair is going to get a giveaway bag with some things in it.”
Victoria Toussaint, a recent master’s graduate of adult and higher education and graduate assistant for the Study Abroad Office, thinks the fair makes it easy for students to get their questions about studying abroad answered.
“The study abroad fair is great to come to because it incorporates everything,” Toussaint said. “It has the NIU-administered program leaders who are coming so you can actually talk to the professor who’s leading the program, the cosponsored programs so you can talk to someone who works for the organization itself, as well as career services, financial aid.”
Even if students do not have a lot of time, Toussaint still encourages a visit to the fair.
“They can still get a general basis. We have peer advisors, who are students who have studied abroad the year before,” Toussaint said. “There are pictures they can look at so they can try to determine what country they actually do want to go to.”
The Study Abroad Office is located in Williston Hall Room 417.
