Women's soccer team faces a tough weekend
By DERRICK SMITH

It’s on the road again as the NIU women’s soccer team travels east this weekend for a pair of matches that kick off a four-game road swing.

The Huskies (5-4-2, 2-2) square off against Ball State today at 3 p.m. CDT and travel to face Miami (Ohio) Sunday at 12 p.m. CDT.

NIU is 2-4-2 against Ball State (7-4, 4-0) and have not notched a victory over the first place Cardinals since 2001.

“They’re extremely organized and they’ve got very talented players,” said head coach Marci Miller-Jobson. “We’re going to have to come out and pressure and finish our chances to win the game. Our defense is going to have to have another great game and play the way that they can play.”

Sunday’s match against Miami (3-5-3, 1-2-1) will not be an easy walk in the park. The coaches have stressed that anything can happen in the MAC and that on any given day, anyone can come out with a victory.

Miami has one of the leading scorers in the MAC in Sara Lund. The freshman has five goals on the season for the Red Hawks.

“She’s one of the best forwards in the MAC and so we’re going to have to shut her out and do a good job on her,” Miller-Jobson said. “These are two really good teams. It’s going to be a battle.”
