'Surrogates' serve some entertainment

RATING:

Imagine a world where there is nothing but attractive robots walking around in your place, being controlled simply by your thoughts.

That’s the world that “Surrogates” has created, where everyone attaches themselves to their robot counterparts and enjoys life from the comfort and safety of their own home.

This means people can choose the surrogates of their liking, which of course means a better version of themselves. And naturally there are a few obese men living as young, sexy women. What sounds extremely complicated is actually not, and the movie does an excellent job of explaining its complex plot.

The film stars Bruce Willis, who can always be counted on to deliver an action-packed performance. The movie is most definitely action-packed, with intense chase scenes and a plot filled with twists and turns- but there is more to this film that just action.

At the heart of it lays morals aimed straight at our culture; to beware of the possibilities of technology, and to never rely on it so much as to forget what it’s like to really be alive.

It also highlights themes such as vanity and is a true warning to where we as a society may be heading.
For originality and creativity alone this movie gets high ratings. Such an incredibly unique plot that is so relevant today makes this film worth watching. It seems that every movie has been done time and time again; it’s incredibly refreshing that someone out there is still coming out with original ideas as opposed to putting out another remake or movie based off of some washed-up ‘80s cartoon.

But beyond the plot is an exciting movie with such an intense climax that you find you have been holding your breath the whole time and didn’t realize it.

All of this combined makes ‘Surrogates” very much worth watching- just try to see beyond the action and hear what the film is really trying to tell you.
