Halloween brings to Rockford, Stillman Valley...

RATING:

After ten strong seasons, the original “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” is still riveting, interesting and full of twists.
In the season premiere last Thursday, all of these attributes shined gloriously in the glitz and glam case the Las Vegas team solved.
After last season when the Las Vegas team lost three members, the newly put-together cast struggles to function as they once did with Gil Grissom, played by William Petersen, at the helm of the night shift. After a famous actress dies in a suspicious car crash, the team is dispatched to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Yet amidst the investigation the team isn’t agreeing with Catherine Willows’s (played by Marg Helgenberger) way of supervising.
Especially Greg Sanders played by Eric Szmanda, who is tired of being treated like a rookie even though he is more experienced than Laurence Fishburne’s Dr. Ray Langston.
In this episode we see Nick Stokes, played by George Eads, really step up as Catherine’s right hand man, something Catherine desperately needs yet doesn’t realize.
A big twist that got everyone by surprise was the return of Sara Sidle played by Jorja Fox.
Since the Vegas team is so understaffed, Ecklie asks Sara if she would like to come back and work for a while. There are no hints on how long Sara will stay but hopefully it’s for the remainder of the season. With Sara’s return, the viewers learn that Grissom is giving lectures around the country and Sara has been in France, big places for two CSI’s from Las Vegas.
Last season, when Catherine first took over Grissom’s job, she seemed to handle it well.
Already in the season premiere, the viewer sees how that has changed. Catherine seems run done overburdened and behind on all her paperwork. Not to mention that Conrad Ecklie, played by Marc Vann, is frustrated and thinks Catherine can’t handle the job or workload.
After reading an evaluation of herself, Catherine realizes that she might not be cut out for this job.
Sara thinks differently and is able to persuade Catherine that all she needs is a second-in-command. At the end of the episode we see that Catherine promotes Nick to assistant supervisor, something she hopes will lighten the load, and something Nick has wanted for a long time.
The premiere episode “Family Affair” is just that for the Vegas team. In this episode we see the cast adapt and show their true colors during the small arguments between each other.
This should be a very interesting season if the cast continues to doubt Catherine’s leadership, not respect Nick’s new position and to see if Sara’s role in the team will be as pivotal as it was in past years.
“CSI: Crime Scene Investgation” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS
