Bus fails to yield, hits oncoming car

A Byron resident was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital after a school bus collided with her vehicle at 2:25 p.m. Friday.

A school bus with 10 juvenile passengers struck another vehicle after the driver, Svetlana Smith, 36, of Kirkland, failed to yield to a vehicle driven by Rachel Case, 22, of Byron.

Case was struck by Smith’s northbound bus as the bus was traveling on Ill. Route 64. Case, who was traveling westbound on Route 64, came to rest in the southbound lane of Malta Road.

No passengers on the bus were injured.
