Defensive end Jake Coffman’s 79-yard interception for a touchdown Saturday had his entire team impressed.
“He looked pretty good actually,” running back Chad Spann said. “He looked like he was running for his life.”
The play also impressed the MAC, as Coffman, a former US Marine, won MAC West Defensive Player of the Week.
It was Coffman’s first touchdown since his days of playing tight end at Forreston High School. The redshirt junior also had a fumble recovery and two tackles for losses.
Chad Spann Update
Spann’s career day of 132 rushing yards and three touchdowns put him in a tie for first place in the nation for touchdowns scored. Spann’s 10 touchdowns have him tied with Navy quarterback
Ricky Dobbs.
How Spann’s spot on the touchdown leaders’ board will hold up this week is another story. The Huskies head into a bye week, which means other active players will have a chance to pass him up.

Offensive guard Jason Onyebuagu has made a name for himself, creating holes for running backs to run through and pancaking defensive lineman to give his quarterbacks protection. But now Onyebuagu has added another skill to his impressive football resume: kick returning.
Onyebuagu, who was on the return team to help block, received a short kick from Western Michigan kicker John Potter and returned it for seven yards after bulldozing one tackler.
“The ball came to me and I just reacted. I probably wasn’t even supposed to catch it,” he said, drawing laughs from the press room.
