Campus police blotter for Oct. 7

Sept. 25
At 1:02 p.m., University Police responded to Neptune East to investigate a theft. A resident reported that her I-Pod was stolen, along with other items at a previous date. Case is pending.

Oct. 4
At 2:28 a.m., University Police patrolling lot O near Grant Drive gave an individual a verbal warning for possession of cannabis. Case is cleared.

At 3:18 a.m., University Police gave a verbal warning for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor at Grant East.

At 5:24 a.m., University Police patrolling Grant North arrested two individuals. One, Jwan Hayes, 20, of Maywood, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Hayes was booked at the NIU Police Department and released on bond. Officers also arrested Martin Hunter, 20, of Broadview, and charged him with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor and battery. Hunter was booked at the NIU Police Department and was transported to the DeKalb County jail.

At 7:12 a.m., University Police received a report of criminal damage to property in Lot J near Grant Towers. A car parked overnight had its driver’s side mirror damaged. With no leads, case is closed.

Oct. 5
At 1:04 p.m., a complainant reported theft of clothing from a laundry room. Case is pending.

At 3:32 p.m., deceptive practices with a stolen check card were reported. Case is pending.

At 4:30 p.m., University Police discovered an individual in possession of cannabis. Officers arrested Shelby Hurd, 20, of Chicago, and charged Hurd with possession of cannabis. Hurd was booked at the NIU Police Department and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

At 6:51 p.m., University Police responded to a report of a fight outside of Grant North. An argument over buying cigarettes turned physical. Officers arrested Christian Greer, 19, of Chicago, and charged him with battery. Greer was booked at the NIU Police Department and released on bond.

At 11:18 p.m., University Police were dispatched on a well-being check to Lincoln Hall. After the person was checked and admitted to drinking underage, he was referred to Judicial Affairs.
