A Chicago man allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a two-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday morning by DeKalb City Police in Genoa.

Patrick S. Douglas, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X Felony, aggravated battery of a child, a Class 3 Felony, two counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 Felony, aggravated resisting a peace officer, a Class 4 Felony, and criminal damage to state supported property, a Class 4 Felony, according to a DeKalb Police press release.

Douglas was a “friend of the family,” said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler, and was allegedly visiting the home, located in the 700 block of North Annie Glidden Road.

The release said the victim’s family reportedly heard a noise coming from the victim’s room and allegedly found Douglas assaulting their child.

Douglas then fled the area after a short scuffle with the family, the release said. DeKalb Police arrived at 12:06 a.m. after Douglas had left.

The release said the victim sustained injuries to the face and head and was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital, 1 Kish Hospital Drive.

Douglas was stopped in Genoa for speeding 30 minutes after the initial call, the release said. The DeKalb County dispatcher alerted Genoa police that Douglas was a suspect and DeKalb officers came to the location and took custody of Douglas, the release said.

When Douglas was at the DeKalb Police Department, the release said he “became violent while in the booking area.”

Spangler said Douglas tried to escape the building, damaging some computers and battering an officer before he could be subdued.

Douglas is being held at the DeKalb County Jail on $1 million bond.

A Class X Felony holds a mandatory sentence of six to 30 years in prison if convicted. Each Class 3 Felony has a maximum sentence of five years and each Class 4 Felony has a maximum sentence of 3 years in prison if convicted.
