The City of DeKalb will soon be welcoming two new taxi services.

During the city council meeting Monday, there was a public hearing held in regard to MGA Taxi Service on Fourth Street.

Salim Abdullah, owner of MGA Taxi service, already operates Custom/DeKalb O’Hare Limousine and now wants to expand his services.

“We’ve been operating for about three years,” Abdullah said. “I’ve seen the need of service based on the number of calls we already get.”

Instead of a running meter, Abdullah instead would like to display a rate card inside the vehicle.

The proposed rates for MGA Taxi Service will be $10 for the four miles. After that, each additional mile will cost $2.50. Also, an additional passenger will cost $2.50.

Another taxi operator is Tim Judge, who owns Superior Transportation Services, 1038 Wild St. in Sycamore.

Judge has driven for 19 years in various positions including 16 years in Chicago. Judge said he used to drive for Keith Snyder while he owned Sycamore Transportation Services.

“I hear all the time that DeKalb County needs a taxi service that is reliable,” Judge said. “It is my desire to once again provide that type of service that the people of DeKalb and Sycamore had become accustomed to.”

The proposed rates for STS would include a minimum fare of $8 up to three miles. Each additional mile is $2.50 and each additional person is $1.

In addition to a taxi service, Judge plans to offer other transportation services, including a shuttle service to the Elburn Metra Train Station and a livery service that would provide transportation to and from Chicago O’Hare and Midway airports, including Greater Rockford
Airport.
