NIU’s university chorus and concert choir gave a performance entitled “World Voices” at the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall Wednesday night.
The hour-long performance started with the university chorus, whose voices blended for a full sound that filled the entire concert hall, which had a packed audience.
Enunciation was strong and made the lyrics clear and easy to understand, despite mostly being in a foreign language.
The chorus’ second selection featured members from NIU’s string quartet, which provided another element and layer of sound to the music. Solos within the piece highlighted individual
singer’s voices.
Selections varied between slow and fast paced tempos which kept the concert interesting and intriguing; the sound was captivating, full and encompassing.
It was easy to see the passion the vocalists had for the music and the performance.
After a brief intermission, the concert choir took the stage, demonstrating a strong passion for the music and the performance as well. The individual vocal sections stood out and didn’t overpower one another.
On one of the selections, organ accompanied the performers and added a deeper layer to the vocals.
Unlike the university chorus, the concert choir performed longer pieces, but by no means did the performance drag. Both choirs were able to hold the audience’s attention throughout the entire concert and both performances were strong.
