For the second straight week, an NIU football player earned the MAC West Defensive Player of the Week award.

Defensive end Brandon Bice earned the honor for his efforts in NIU’s 20-19 lost to Toledo.
The senior had eight tackles, including two for a loss, and produced a pair of fumbles against the Rockets.

“The turnovers gave us a chance to kick the field goal at the end of the game to win,” NIU head coach Jerry Kill said. “Without the turnovers, we would have struggled.”

This is the fifth time an NIU player has been named player of the week. Fellow defensive end Jake Coffman, linebacker Cory Hanson, running back Me’co Brown and place kicker Mike Salerno have also earned the award this season.

Hughes earns honor

For the third time this season, NIU libero Maddie Hughes was named MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week.

The Huskies won both of their games this past weekend in four sets. In those eight volleyball games, Hughes totaled 42 digs without any errors.

Hughes leads the conference with 4.96 digs per set and is averaging 5.45 digs per set in conference play.
