Academics hinders 'college life'
NIU employees mandated to take state ethics test

Emanuel Vinson, freshman political science major from Chicago, takes his creativity seriously.
Vinson not only creates his own music, but also produces it— a feat not too many other musicians have the ambition to do.
Northern Star: How would you describe your music style?
Emanuel Vinson: It’s really experimental. It’s unconventional, but at the same time still catchy and has a mass appeal. It’s progressive hip-hop and electronic pop.
NS: What singers and/or bands would you say have influenced you the most?
EV: Radiohead, Kanye, Animal Collective, Outkast, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez–Lopez.
NS: What are you working on right now?
EV: I’m working on my sixth self-produced album right now.
NS: What are your musical goals?
EV: My eventual goal is to make a living off of touring. Since I self-produce everything on my laptop, it doesn’t cost much to make, but I do want to travel and make as many people happy as possible.
NS: Do you have any future shows planned?
EV: I have a show at Java 101 Friday at 8 p.m. I usually do the open mics every Thursday.
