The Rant: Not worth the chase

Every school has that recruit who got away. But somehow I doubt the Huskies are upset over the loss of former recruit Chase Mejia.

The wide receiver committed to NIU on Jan. 31, 2008. After Feb. 14, however, Mejia uncommitted.

So where is he now?

At first, Mejia went to Missouri State, a Football Championship Series school. But that wasn’t his style, so he transferred to Kansas State. But the transfer just wasn’t meant to be.

Instead, the former wide receiver, or at least someone looking exactly like him, decided to fly to Miami, receive $1,500 and play a staring role in an adult film that pits college kids in dorm rooms.

For now, the only effect on Mejia was to be taken off Kansas State’s roster. But who knows what else will come? I don’t even know where to begin to tell this kid that he made a horrible decision.

But I doubt NIU is heartbroken over the loss of a guy like this. The Huskies are looking for guys with character, not guys who are.
