At 8:56 a.m., a victim in Douglas Hall reported to University Police that someone stole $20 from her purse between Sept. 20 and Sept. 21. Pending new leads, case is closed.
Oct. 22
At 3 a.m., University Police encountered an individual returning to Douglas Hall with a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him. The individual admitted to drinking and was referred to Judicial Affairs for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.
At 3:33 a.m., University Police were informed of a possible banned subject at Douglas Hall committing criminal trespass to state-supported land. Case is pending.
At 7:06 a.m., victim reported to University Police someone bent the windshield wiper of their vehicle backward while it was parked in Lot 29 near Grant Towers. Pending further leads, case is closed.
At 3:06 p.m., victim reported to University Police that someone damaged their vehicle as it was parked in Lot J near Grant Towers. Case is pending.
At 5:39 p.m., victim reported to University Police that an iPod was stolen in Grant South. Case is pending.
At 9:24 p.m., University Police conducting an investigation approached a room in Grant South to interview the resident. After questioning the underage resident who revealed both cannabis and liquor, the officer referred him to Judicial Affairs.
At 11:56 p.m., University Police referred an individual in Grant South to Judicial Affairs for possession of cannabis and drug equipment.
Oct. 23
At 2:25 a.m., University Police responded to Grant South for a possible fight. Upon arrival, the officer noticed a person in the service drive who was banned from all NIU property. The officer arrested Steven A. Starnes, 20, of Chicago for criminal trespass to state-supported property. The officer booked Starnes at NIU Police Department, where he posted bond and was released. Starnes was also referred to Judicial Affairs.
At 2:53 a.m., University Police on patrol observed a vehicle disobey a stop sign. Contact with the driver revealed the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. The driver, who initially provided a false name, submitted to field sobriety testing. The test results were consistent with a person whose blood alcohol content was over the legal limit of 0.08. Officers arrest Anthony S. McClain, 27, of DeKalb, for driving under the influence and attempted obstruction of justice. Officers booked McClain at the NIU Police Department, where he was later transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
At 3:11 a.m., University Police on patrol near the 300 block of Annie Glidden Road noticed a vehicle driving erratically. Contact with the driver revealed the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver, who was under the age of 21. Officers arrested Kristen A. Hubbard, 19, of Batavia for unlawful consumption of alcohol and zero tolerance for driving under the influence. Officers booked Hubbard at the NIU Police Department, where she posted bond and was released.
At 10:55 p.m., University Police on patrol in Lincoln Hall smelled alcohol coming from a room. After knocking, the officers found six individuals in the room with alcohol. They voluntarily poured out the alcohol. Being under 21, the individuals were referred to Judicial Affairs for unlawful consumption and possession of alcohol by a minor.
Oct. 24
At 12:32 a.m., University Police on patrol in Douglas Hall encountered two individuals. One was referred to Judicial Affairs for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, while the other was referred for possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 1:18 a.m., University Police in Douglas Hall overheard one individual ask another to go to his room to smoke cannabis. The officer went to the room to talk with the two people. They revealed alcoholic beverages, cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Both were referred to Judicial Affairs for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 3:53 p.m., victim came to the lobby of the NIU Police Department to file a complaint against her ex-boyfriend. The victim said her ex-boyfriend grabbed her arm forcibly, took her vehicle keys, broke her vehicle’s remote key, sat in her vehicle without her permission and refused to exit it. Officers arrested Tyler J. Whitehead, 20, of DeKalb, and was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and domestic battery. Officers booked Whitehead at the NIU Police Department, where he was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
At 4:20 p.m., University Police responded to Lincoln Hall for a potential domestic battery in progress. Contact with three individuals resulted in the officers referring them to Judicial Affairs. One was referred for battery, the other two for obstruction of justice.
At 7:25 p.m., University Police on patrol in Stevenson South observed a smell coming from a particular room. Contact with the resident of that room produced cannabis residue and drug paraphernalia. The resident was referred to Judicial Affairs.
At 11:45 p.m., University Police conducting a building check of Grant South smelled alcohol coming from a particular room. Contact with the occupants of that room revealed six people who were under 21. They all admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and agreed to pour out the remaining alcoholic beverages. They were referred to Judicial Affairs for unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.
